Last Saturday (1st November) marked the final round of the first half of the season – a special setup where all teams played within the same day, keeping the suspense for the first place alive until the very end. The Allmend grounds echoed with SFFS fans voices, setting the stage for a decisive day.
While the team wasn’t competing for the league top half spot, breaking the losing streak before the winter break against a theoretically beatable opponent was on everyone’s mind. Motivated by that, EDA showed up in great numbers – sixteen players, one of the highest attendances of the season. With goalkeeping persisting issue, the ever-reliable Regez stepped up once again to defend the red-and-white goal.
The match started with EDA taking the initiative, pressing high and creating several early chances. Maxim had the first big opportunity after only 3′, finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his attempted lob went narrowly over. Larry then delivered two dangerous crosses from the right flank, but João (23′) and Maxim (29′) both missed their chances.
As the half progressed, Bern United began to find space behind EDA’s defensive line with long balls. Causing our lines to drop and allowing the visitors to gain confidence, slowly turning the tide. Their efforts paid off in the 40′ minute with a quick counterattack down the left side, exploiting a poor defensive coordination and putting the ball past Regez for the 0-1.
Barely two minutes later, another attack down our right wing caught the defense off guard once again, while some players stopped, claiming the ball had gone out, Bern United played on and doubled their lead with a precise cross and finish. Bern United went into half-time with full momentum and belief.
Half-Time
EDA tried to reset during the break and return with renewed spirit, but little or nothing changed. Under pressure, our defense line resorted to aimless long balls that often went straight to the opponent, the midfield struggled to build-up, barely keeping even three passes in a row, and the attack couldn’t control the ball and retain possession.
We made things easy for Bern United, who controlled possession and set the game rhythm throughout the whole second half. It felt like a matter of time before the scoreline widened – and so it did. The third goal arrived in the 73′ minute, and the fourth sealed the result in the 90′ minute: 0-4.
Bern United were undeniably the better team on the day, earning their first win of the season with full merit.
This match mirrored our first half of the season – a strong start, but a slow decline until the very end. We close this half-season in 10th place, with only 7 points, which means we’ll be competing in the half-bottom liguilha next spring.
Now it’s time to regroup. The goal for the second round is clear: climb to the top of the bottom half and prove to ourselves that we belong to the top half. We’ll use the winter break to recover from injuries, train hard, prepare for the Trainingslager, and refocus as a team.
A heartfelt thank you to all friends and families who came to the Allmend to support us – your presence means the world. And a special word of appreciation to Remo, who led the team for the last time before stepping down as coach. Thank you for your time, patience, and dedication.
Let’s go!
