Meisterschaft: FC EDA – SC Lehmann+Huldi 4:0

With some absences, FC EDA came on with an offensive 4-1-4-1 setup. Lüthi, in his first FC EDA game, assumed a position in the inner defense and Büschi returned to the starting line-up to take over FC EDA goal keeping duties on behalf the absent Stauffacher. The game began at a ferocious pace with a FC EDA determined to lay down a marker before the visitors SC Lehmann + Huldi, not yielding any free space to the away team to build their game, allowing them to merely exploring direct football throw the defensive axis, always anchored by a FC EDA focused defense. With only 16’ minutes played an excellent long pass thrown by McHugh beat the defensive line and found Theiler, who shot against the goalie but was able to direct the ricochet into the net for the opening score: 1-0. However, the team did not ease up with one goal advantage  maintaining the high pressure and positive attitude FC EDA were hunting down the opposition, combining well, passing from the centre of midfield to racing attackers, and shooting from short and long range. Several good chances went begging but the players could sense that a breakthrough was imminent. With the game flowing in one direction the inevitable happened with FC EDA scoring again on 42' minutes. A precise Theiler pass found Flühmann, who showed amazing class by calmly placing the ball near the post, beyond the reach of the SC Lehmann + Huldi goalie, and with this result the game went to halftime. This was one of the best 45 minutes from FC EDA all season showing; cohesive defense, support and composure in midfield and a high level of pressure in the last third. The aim was to build on this and see the game out in style.

For the second half SC Lehmann + Huldi made some tactical and personal changes, determined to reverse the one-sided affair. This, however, was contained mostly in the midfield. With the visitors intending to force a chance some spaces where opening up for FC EDA and a chance for quick counterattacks appeared in the 62' minute resulting in the 3-0, again with Theiler (what a tremendous game!) providing the darting Zierski with a footrace to beat his opponent and put the ball in the net.

With a comfortable advantage and FC EDA showing signs of fatigue the lines had to be pullback in order to maintain a compact midfield, exploiting counterattacks. Near the 75’ minute a goal chance for the visitors, after a FC EDA defensive error left a SC Lehmann + Huldi striker one-on-one with Büschi,  who immediately attacked the ball closing the shooting opportunity and denying what looked like a certain goal.

After the entry of Strausak, Krohnenberg, Steege and A. Affolter during the second half the team continued just as before, tirelessly pressing the opponent on their defense, resulting in the final goal of the game, 4-0, with Aaron forcing a back pass from the defender of SC + Lehmann Huldi to their goalie, who was catch by surprise and allowed the ball to slip under his foot and into the empty net.

Despite the result, SC Lehmann + Huldi demonstrated why they are one of the better teams in this league, even with some absences they were a worthy opponent and didn't give up until the final whistle.

A note to Lüthi debut, that confidently demonstrates that will be an important piece in FC EDA aspirations and also a huge appreciation to the wonderful fans that, supporting incessantly, have been present on FC EDA games.
